What: After School Chorus that will perform secular pieces that carry messages in keeping with the Core Values of Exploris Middle School.
When: Mondays, 3:15-4:15 PM starting on September 30.
Where: EMS Gym
Who: All students are welcome to join. No previous experience required. The group will be led by Exploris 8th grade parent Jim White
How Much: $10
- Pianist to accompany singers
- African drums
- Portable electronic keyboard
To Register: Email Jim and Elizabeth White. Include your student’s name and grade.
Details: The group will plan to perform at Expressions Day on December 12, and
possibly one outreach program TBA. There will also be the possibility of
the chorus continuing through the Spring, depending on interest.
The chorus will sing from sheet music, but no previous experience with
singing or music is necessary. We will make this a fun and positive
experience where students learn about choral singing and how to use their
singing voices. The music chosen can be sung in unison on up to 4 parts, and
we will assign parts based on what the students are able to learn.
Participants will need to contribute $10.00 for the cost of sheet music and
folders. Checks can be made payable to Jim and Elizabeth White and brought
to the first rehearsal. If this is prohibitive for anyone, please let us
know by emailing us directly.
We are looking for a pianist who can accompany the group, and are also
looking for an easily transportable Roland type high quality electronic
keyboard to be stored off campus but that can be brought in for rehearsals
For an example of a piece we would plan to do, you can go on YouTube – enter
the title Give Us Hope by Jim Papoulis, and choose the one performed by the
Young People’s Chorus of New York City.
Please consider participating and contact us with any questions. We look
forward to hopefully having the opportunity to work with your students.
